A Mis-Guided Wander in Llandudno + talk on Pilgrimages in Everyday Places with Phil Smith
Join us for a walk at 11, and/or lunch at 1 and a talk and discussion at 2pm with Phil Smith, known for creating performance walks from Kensington Gardens to rocky North Devon promontories, from long Cornish beaches to Ipswich’s suburbia via Sussex re-wilding sites, will be creating an instant mis-guided tour of a few streets in Llandudno, looking at the secret history of apparently innocent signage, the mysterious journeys of materials and the way that myths are waiting to give meaning to even the most ordinary of places.
After our wander, we will have lunch (provided) and then Phil will describe his work over the last 20 years as a walking artist and researcher: his transformation from playwright to a wanderer researching the narratives and dynamics of place and space, making performances about walking. Phil will describe how the idea of ‘mythogeography’ slowly emerged out of site-specific theatre to become a means to searching for the wonderful in the ordinary, a mental and physical discipline with relevance to dance, pilgrimage and geography.
Lindsey will share the results of her residency, O Fa’ma I Fa’ma: A People’s Map of Llandudno, and there will be lots of opportunity for discussion and interaction.

Revealed! The People's Map of Llandudno

Talk: From Cenataph to Selfies: Memorials and Memorialisation in Llandudno with Wanda Zyborska
Come and join artist in residence, Lindsey Colbourne, and [?? how to describe you] Wanda Zyborska in a dynamic exploration of the past, present and future monuments and memorialisation of Llandudno. We’ll be looking at what we found on our 8-hour walk around Llanudno, and what it says about the town in the light of Wanda’s own research and practice, current high profile iconoclasm and discourse on public monuments and their subjects across the globe.
Wanda’s walk with Lindsey is just one of many walks Lindsey has undertaken over the last month. During the evening there will be an opportunity to meet others who have been involved, and to get a sneak preview of the emerging results, together with further opportunities to contribute to the People’s Map of Llandudno (which may, or may not, itself be a piece of memorialization).
Light refreshments will be served!
Wanda is one of the leading artists in North Wales. She takes a conceptual approach to making, employing mixed media (including performance, 2D, video and 3D work) in gallery and site-specific work, while remaining engaged with process. She exhibits nationally and internationally. Wanda teaches fine art and contextual studies at the University of Wales, Bangor.
A search for the Centre of Llandudno
A treasure hunt with a difference: It all starts here!
What, who, where, when would you say is the heart of Llandudno? Come along and get your 'centre-orientation' at 2pm, before heading off on your own personal quest alone or in groups (or all together) to find what you think is the epi-centre of the town.
Come back with your findings, bring photos, sounds, film, objects or writing to add to the People's Map: There'll be tea and cake and all centres found will result in prizes!
